Do you hear voices, see visions, or experience extraordinary perceptions?

Bear Creek Hearing Voices Network offers peer support for people who hear voices, see visions, and experience other forms of extraordinary perception and unique realities. We also aim to provide educational events and resources for family, friends, and those working in the mental health field.

In July 2022, we were featured in a discussion about the Hearing Voices Network on Oregon Public Broadcasting — check it out!

Our in-person support groups are located in Jackson County, Oregon. For people who can’t attend in person, we can refer you to online support groups. We also aim to host educational events and trainings throughout the year.

While some people label our experiences as schizophrenia, bipolar, paranoia, or psychosis, we choose to ask each other, “What does your experience mean to YOU?”

How does Bear Creek HVN understand experiences like hearing voices and seeing visions?

Our work is rooted in the approach of the Hearing Voices Network (HVN) – but you don’t have to hear voices to attend our groups! You can learn more about the history of Hearing Voices Network, and check out our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ coming soon!).

Bear Creek HVN is a local chapter of Hearing Voices Network USA. We believe in the value of exploring the personal and cultural meaning inherent in our experiences. We start from a place of acknowledging three freedoms:

  • Freedom to interpret experiences in any way, not just an illness framework.
  • Freedom to challenge social norms — including gender and racial stereotypes or other ideas about how we are “supposed to be” in the world.
  • Freedom to talk about anything — not just voices and visions.

Our groups are peer-led, meaning they are facilitated by people who have their own experience of voices, visions, and extrasensory perceptions. If you are interested in attending a Hearing Voices Network meeting either online or in-person, you can find a list our meetings here.
